Since its inception in 1956, the Town of  Marshfield Council on Aging, along with all other Councils on Aging within the Commonwealth and under the guidance of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs has evolved from a recreational focus to a focus which is dedicated to making a variety of needed services available to elders.

Senior Center
The Council on Aging, a human service department of  the town, through it’s Senior Center, provides a central mechanism for the delivery of services and activities to Marshfield’s elder population. Through the use of a familiar and convenient location those needing assistance have an easily identifiable mechanism from which to seek assistance.  For others the Senior Center helps overcome feelings of isolation and loneliness that can accompany the aging process. It accomplishes this through its many varied services and programs such as exercise, weight & strength training, yoga, bridge, computer club, painting, drawing, crafts, quilting, knitting, creative writing, mah-jongg, cribbage, pinochle, coffee hours, movies, educational seminars, walking club, health screening clinics, pedi care, income tax assistance, senior golf, diabetes support group and fuel applications.

Information and Referral
Through trained staff and an extensive resource file, the Council on Aging is able to direct callers to the appropriate resources and answer questions about a variety of services.  In many cases, the Council on Aging makes the referral for those seeking assistance and provides follow-up to insure that the needed assistance has been rendered.

The Link
Published monthly by the Council on Aging, this newsletter keeps seniors informed and up-to-date about issues of importance as well as lists all the month’s activities and services.  Seniors in Marshfield can request that it be mailed to their homes.
